Birth Defects


Birth defects can occur through at least 3 ways. In the malformation, the fetus or a structure having a genetic disorder so that "programmed" to develop abnormally. One example is extremity contractures due to dyastrophic dysplasia. Deformation occurs when a genetically normal fetus develops in an abnormal uterine environment resulting in changes in the structure. One example is oligohydramnios causes limb contractures.
