Hyperthermia is an increase in body temperature above the hypothalamic set point when the mechanism of heat expenditure disturbed (by drugs or diseases) and influenced by external heat (environmental) or internal (metabolic).
Heat shock (heat stroke) is a severe disease characterized by core temperature > 40 º C, accompanied by hot and dry skin. And central nervous system abnormalities, such as delirium, convulsions, or coma caused by exposure to environmental heat (heat shock) or heavy physical activity (related activities).
There is a core temperature threshold to start the process of sweating. In heat stress conditions, human activate the sweat glands eccrin (under the control cholinergic sympathetic) and the ability to remove the sweat glands to regulate body temperature. Impaired thermoregulation system with reduced or absence of sweat is the most important causes of heat stroke in hot environments.
