Etiology
Chromomycosis is a deep mycosis Phialophora pedrosoi, Phialophora verrucosa, Phialophora compacta, and Cladosporium carionii that usually attacks the skin. The source is usually from natural disease and infection through trauma. The disease is not transmitted from human to human and has never been reported in animals. Dissemination can occur through auto-inoculation, there is also the possibility of spread through lymphatic channels. Spread through blood by attacking the central nervous system have been reported.
Clinical Overview
The fungus entered the soil through skin abrasions, developing nodules form with a rough surface which then becomes verrucous lesions resembling cauliflower and firmly bounded.
Differential Diagnosis
Tuberculosis verrucous cutis, Epidermoid carcinoma.
Prognosis
If treatment is perfect, the prognosis is good.
