Etiology
Varicella is a highly contagious disease caused by varicella-zoster virus (VZV) with symptoms in the skin and mucous membranes of vesicles and accompanied by constitutional symptoms.
Clinical Overview
The incubation period is between 11-21 days (average 14 days), followed by a mild prodromal symptoms for 1-2 days. Patients with fever, anorexia and malaise, reddish papules arise on the skin which later became the vesicles. Vesicles formed a new fixed while the previous vesicles rupture, dry up and become a crust, so at some point will appear a variety of skin rashes (cicatrix / polymorph). Vesicles are usually thin-roofed, round to oval shape resembles a drop of water, so-called "teardrop vesicles".
Differential Diagnosis
Herpes zoster.
