Patau Syndrome (Trisomy 13)
The main abnormality in trisomy 13 is mental retardation, holoprosencephalus, congenital heart defects, deafness, cleft lip, and eye defects (mikroftalmia, anoftalmia, coloboma). The incidence of this disorder is approximately 1 in 20,000 live births, and more than 90% of these infants died during the first month after birth.
