Rabies is an acute infectious disease of central nervous system in humans and mammals are fatal. The disease is caused by a virus belonging to the genus Lyssa rabis-virus, family Rhabdoviridae and infects humans through the bite of salivary secretions of infected animals, like dogs, cats, monkeys, foxes, raccoons, and bats. Another way of infection is through inhalation.
The rabies virus inactivated on heating, at a temperature of 56ºC the half-life of less than one minute, and in humid conditions at a temperature of 37ºC to survive a few hours. The virus will also die with a detergent, soap, 45% ethanol, and solutions jodium.
